Behind the Work:
As part of Concord Music Group’s acquisition of the historic Fania Records label, I was entrusted with evaluating the condition of the original master tapes—an archive containing some of the most culturally significant recordings in Latin music history. Working on-site at Iron Mountain alongside Kelly Pribble, I spot-checked critical assets across the catalog, assessing audio fidelity and physical condition. While some tapes showed signs of mold or saltwater damage and were flagged for remediation, many of the foundational masters were found to be in excellent shape.
This work helped ensure the long-term preservation of an archive that represents decades of innovation, artistry, and community. Fania’s influence spans continents and generations, and this moment of stewardship was a powerful reminder of the deep responsibility we carry when working with recorded legacy.
